Community Outreach Programme
for the Elderly Launched in December 1999, the
Community Outreach Programme for the Elderly (COPE) is a
determined effort by the South East CDC to harness the collective
resources of the community – corporate volunteers,
healthcare professionals, retired nurses, religious groups
and students – to help older people (and their families)
cope with the challenges of age.
With an ageing population, there is a need to complement
rehabilitative programmes with community-based programmes
that emphasise preventive healthcare and health promotion.
Objectives
a. To provide an ongoing, comprehensive
framework to ensure that the elderly within the District
are taken care of;
b. To encourage civic groups and students
to contribute their part to improve the lives of the elderly;
c. To enhance the psychological, physical
and emotional well being of the elderly; and
d. To promote community bonding and intergenerational
communication between elderly and volunteers.

or if your organisation is interested to set up a COPE team.
