The family is the cornerstone of our society. Strong and stable families are pivotal to social stability and harmony. In recognition to cultivate a pro-family environment, Family Hub was launched in November 2005 with the aim of achieving strong family units which support a cohesive community.
For over three years, many initiatives were organised under the Family Hub umbrella. These include South East Family Festival 2009.
South East Family Festival 2009
South East CDC has achieved another milestone with our very first South East Family Festival 2009. A total of 16 events were being carried out from 6 June to 28 June and a total of 4300 participants attended the South East Family Festival 2009. This would not had been possible without the collaborative effort from our partners such as Family Life Champions (FLCs) and Women Executive Committees (WECs).
Apart from the festivities, participating families are also part of the charitable spirit for a community cause. By having their photographs taken on site, South East CDC is able to exchange for 400 Food hampers to needy families generously sponsored by corporate donor, Lam Soon Singapore Pte Ltd.
1) Sand City 6
National Family Celebrations is an annual event which celebrates and reinforces the importance of families and family life. In line with National Family week, South East CDC will launch South East Family Festival 2009 with our iconic highlight, South East Sand City.
South East Sand City 6 has been a popular event running for the past five years with the objective of promoting strong family ties. This year, we had a short facilitator workshop where we invite the seasoned families who had joined us previously to come back for a revision session so that they could impart their knowledge to new families at the sandcastle building workshops.
Through the 2-hours workshops, families put their sand sculpting skills to the test and also spend quality time together in scenario planning, design and construction of their sandcastle.
South East CDC co-organise this event with four Women Executive Committees (WECs) and five Family Life Champions (FLCs) to reach out to more families in the district. A total of 83 families attended the Sand City 6. We had also engage six volunteers to help out at Sand City 6.
